Marcellinus Comes
   Sixth-century Latin chronicler who served on the official staff of Justinian I (q.v.), earning the title of comes (q.v.). His chronicle (q.v.) continues the work of Jerome (q.v.), covering the years 379-518; it was later extended to 534. It concentrates on affairs in the East. His account of the Nika Revolt (q.v.) may reflect the way it was viewed by Justinian's court, e.g., ignoring popular dissatisfaction in favor of the idea that it was a result of a conspiracy by the nephews of Anastasios I (q.v.).
